Makeup reorg 2.0

Earlier this year I invested in handy little plastic drawers to aid with the organisation of my makeup. But like a kid begging to tear off its training wheels, I attempted to do the same in my own way last weekend. I jammed all of this...

Into this...

I purchased this plastic organiser from my local Officeworks for less than $15.00. It's still much cheaper than this Kardashian solution.

Let's see how long this lasts ;)

How do you stay organised or attempt to manage chaos?

The guinea pig diaries: Emjoi's PediSmooth Plus

No one likes snaggle toe, no one. With Winter and Spring in my rearview mirror, my feet have been barking for a little TLC. In between visits to French Pink I try to scrub my feet and keep them hydrated, but my frequent gym sessions often leave my feet parched! We're talking totally toe-up!

Cue Emjoi's PediSmooth Plus!

It's a handy little device with whirring bits and bobs and man does it smooth my soles! This contraption comes with two removable and washable rollers, a protective cover, brush and carry bag. For testing purposes I started off with the light pink roller (intended for coarse skin), whereas the white roller is grittier for tougher/drier feet. Baby steps, people!

Tips for use:

  • To start make sure your feet are both clean and dry.
  • Choose the appropriate roller for your feet's current state and insert it into the head of the device.
  • There are two speed options -- low and high. I opted for the low speed to start and then switched to the higher speed on a couple of trouble spots.
  • Once you've reached your desired results, wipe off your feet and sanitise the device.
  • Never submerge Emjoi's PediSmooth Plus in water unless you want to say bye bye to this goody.
  • Whilst the rollers are washable, it's suggested to rinse these babies off -- these can't be submerged in water either.
  • In terms of use, keep your hand moving, don't apply pressure and don't stay on one area for more than 2-3 seconds. PediSmooth Plus primarily needs guidance.

With the last point, it's not an attempt to scare you (and you shouldn't be), it's something to be mindful of when using.

PediSmooth Plus retails for $39.95 AUS and is perfect for people who want quick results with minimal work involved.

I'm sold!

Natralus' Paw Paw Pure Gel

Come December I'll be toting Natralus' Paw Paw Pure Gel in my purse and gym bag. Between the strong sun, all sorts of bugs and spiders waiting to attack their prey (with my luck, me) and my sensitive skin, I'll be needing all of the help I can get. Natralus' Paw Paw Gel is colour, alcohol and fragrance free. This South Australia-based brand also doesn't test on animals. Paw Paw (yes, the fruit), aloe vera and vitamin E work together and fight a host ailments -- bug bites, rashes, sunburns. Paw Paw Pure Gel might not be as glamorous as the next big lipstick or nail polish, but riddle me this... will either item soothe your skin? I don't think so ;) If gel isn't to your liking, Natralus has an ointment version -- a little goes a long way.

Between my being a calamity Jane at times and general delicate flower nature, I smeared a bit of the Paw Paw Pure Gel on random scratches and cuts earlier this week; things have since healed up quite nicely.

Word to the wise upon opening the tube: remove the protective foil and then give it a good squeeze into the trash in order to get it flowing. Let's just say I had an accident and wasted a bit of product in the process.

Select Natralus products can be purchased from the following online retail locations:

Small tubes (7g) on average retail for $3.50 AUS. Not too shabby.

What to do with longish hair?

For a very long time I had long hair and then in 2001 I decided to give it the chop. For me, short hair hit just below my shoulders and that's about where my hair stayed through most of my 20's. There were a few occasions where I cut it even shorter, dyed it and even had it chemically straightened (stupid, I know). I'm on the verge of turning 30-years-old and am longing for the hair I once had 15 years ago! My hair is in a state of limbo while I wait for it to grow out.

The sun has been highlighting a lot of things lately, a concealer match gone wrong and spider plant-like split ends. I get my hair trimmed fairly regularly, but I fear daily hot styling and hair washing has taken it's toll on my naturally wavy/frizzy hair. So, I've decided to cut back on the frequency in which I wash my hair and style it in ways I've never imagined.

Those lovely girls over at the Beauty Department have given me an idea or two. However, with a bit more googling around for longer hairstyles, I happened upon AskSash88 via Youtube and fell in love with all of the random permutations she successfully attempted.

If you want to try something like this, make sure your hair is slightly dirty (day old hair) and have the following items at the ready:

  • A comb or brush
  • Dry shampoo to help sop up excess oil at your roots before styling
  • One clear hair elastic
  • A clip, if necessary
  • At least four bobby pins; this amount will vary based on the length and thickness of your hair
  • Hairspray to set your style

All told, it took me approximately ten minutes to do my hair and trust me when I tell you I'm not the best at braiding and such.

What do you think? Are you feeling brave enough to give this look a go?
