A peek at the cheeks: Becca's Mineral Blush in Damselfly

Becca's Damselfly

Becca's Damselfly

Funny thing, but I've never been into entomology -- I think watching the first few minutes of The Silence of the Lambs at a very young age spoiled that particular interest. I did, however, look up what a damselfly is; think of a dragonfly just with different shaped wings and poor flying skills.

The inspiration for Becca's Mineral Blush stems from, perhaps, an interest in flora and fauna; this is my only working theory.

Damselfly is described as a "bright coral", but I get more orange, almost terracotta, than pink on my pale-ish skin.

Here's what Becca has to say about their Mineral Blush:

"Impart a soft halo of color onto the apples of your cheeks with this delicate powder that subtly reflects the light and casts a luminous glow. Formulated with a natural mineral complex and infused with antioxidant vitamins A, E, and C, this blush nourishes and conditions skin for a smooth, illuminated complexion."

Becca's Mineral Blush range is extremely similar to NARS in terms of price point, texture, quality, colour build-ability and payoff.

Damselfly gives you a peachy keen, fresh off the beach glow that lasts all day.

A top tip from Becca: "Layer over Beach Tint for added intensity."

The Bagful breakdown:

Total amount for Becca's Mineral Blush in Damselfly:

Value for money spent (performance and quality):

  • 8 out of 10 bags — Pricey, but worth it.

Would another purchase be on the horizon?:

  • Mineral Blush in both Gypsy and Flowerchild are my next two targets.

Beauty in a tick: Becca's Beach Tints in Lychee and Watermelon

Colour that's good enough for your lips (not mine) and cheeks.

Personally, I love wearing Becca's Beach Tint on my cheeks, because all you need is your chosen tube (any one of the eight shades will do) and your ring finger to dab and blend.

Sheer them out or build them up for a flirty flush. A subtle wash of colour really makes your cheeks glow.

When worn on the lips I've noticed both Lychee and Watermelon suck the moisture straight out of my lips and leaves them feeling parched. The Sahara-like conditions force the colour to collect and settle within the fine lines of my lips, making the once matte finish appear patchy and downright gross.

Recently, I sent P-Cakes the tube of Watermelon I purchased -- she had the same feedback as me. Great on her cheeks and drying on her lips.

The Bagful breakdown:

Total amount for Becca's Beach Tint:

Value for money spent (performance and quality):

  • 7 out of 10 bags — it's not a multi-purpose product for me, but it might work for you.

Would another purchase be on the horizon?:

The BECCA Experience: Special Occasion Makeup

Becca @ David Jones in the heart of Melbourne's CBD

Becca @ David Jones in the heart of Melbourne's CBD

Becca and I don't go back that far, so when I was asked if I would like to pop in to my local Becca counter for a proper getting to know you, I jumped at the chance.

Last Saturday Kristi of Becca educated me about the brand's history -- Becca was started 10 years ago in Perth by Rebecca Morrice, whose mainstay focus has always been on beautiful skin. Everything else is a thoughtful, yet secondary, addition.

In 45 blissful minutes I was naturally elevated from no makeup Nicole to a better version of me.

Here's a picture heavy walk down memory lane.
